Alert: State To Spray Milford Mill for Mosquitoes

Spraying will be held Thursday night and Sept. 13, and the county asks residents to stay indoors as the area is sprayed by trucks driving through the streets.

The Maryland Department of Agriculture will be spraying in Milford Mill tonight and Sept. 13 to kill mosquitoes.

The spraying program, which includes other areas as well, is being done because there has been a case of a Baltimore County resident who has gotten West Nile virus, according to a news release.

Some mosquitoes might carry the virus and can transmit it to humans through bites.

The MDA recommends that residents in the Milford Mill area stay indoors during spraying, the release states.

The spray is BioMist 30-30, which "contains the active ingredient permethrin," the release states.

Permethrin is approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The following is included in the news release from Baltimore County.

For product label and Material Safety Data Sheet, visit the MDA web site. For information on health and environmental effects of permethrin, refer to the National Pesticide Information Center Technical Sheet.

Correction: The headline in the original version of this article misstated who would be doing the spraying. That has been corrected. And information on the spray has been added to the story.
