Baltimore Police ID Officer Involved in Training Shooting

Officer William S. Kern, an 18-year-veteran of the Baltimore Police, was named at the officer involved in Tuesday’s training exercise shooting in Owings Mills.

Baltimore Police have released the name of the officer involved in the incident that left a police trainee critically wounded Tuesday afternoon. Officer William S. Kern, 46, was assigned as an instructor in the education and training section in Baltimore Police. A University of Maryland Baltimore Police trainee was shot in the head by an instructor during an exercise at an Owings Mills training facility at the Rosewood Center, which is run by the department. The University of Maryland Baltimore police trainee, a man in his 40s, was in critical condition Wednesday, and Baltimore Police did not have an update on his condition Thursday afternoon. Wounded Police Trainee in Critical Condition

A University of Maryland Baltimore police trainee was shot in the head during a training exercise in Owings Mills Tuesday.

A police trainee is in critical condition Wednesday morning after being shot in the head during a training exercise in Owings Mills. At 2:30 p.m., a University of Maryland Baltimore Police trainee was shot by an instructor at the Rosewood Center, according to Baltimore Police Detective Angela Carter-Watson. The trainee, who is in his 40s, was shot in the front of his head, said Thomas Scalea, the chief physician at shock trauma, during a press conference Tuesday night. UMD Police Trainee Shot During Owings Mills Exercise

A police trainee was shot during a training exercise in Owings Mills Tuesday afternoon.

A University of Maryland police trainee was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma after being shot during a training exercise Tuesday afternoon, police confirmed. Baltimore City Police have a training facility on Rosewood Lane in Owings Mills, but Detective Angela Carter-Watson, a police spokeswoman, could only confirm that the incident occurred in Owings Mills at 2:36 p.m. ABC2 News reported that the incident happened at the Rosewood Center on Rosewood Lane. At 3 p.m., Carter-Watson said the trainee was being transported by medevac to Maryland Shock Trauma. The nature of the injuries was still under investigation, she said.
