The deadline is approaching for nonprofits to claim federal aid for expenses related to Superstorm Sandy. The late-October storm drenched the mid-Atlantic. Nonprofits like volunteer fire companies must submit paperwork to the Federal Emergency Management Agency by Feb. 2. FEMA funding is only available for expenses incurred between Oct. 26 and Nov. 4. According to a Baltimore County news release, nonprofits must prove at least $1,000 in storm expenses, and will have 60 days to send in lists of storm damages and expenses. The Baltimore Orioles are asking their fans to step up to the plate and donate supplies for Superstorm Sandy relief efforts. Birds fans are invited to bring donations to the Warehouse at Orioles Park until 5 p.m. Thursday or between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday, according to a news release. The Orioles, in partnership with Von Paris Moving and Storage, will send two to three moving trucks filled with donations to New Jersey communities that were hit hard during the recent storm. Those making donations can temporarily park in the North Warehouse Lot near the Orioles Team Store to drop off items at the second floor reception desk, the release reads.
