Steel doors and a locked cash register didn't stop burglars at the Knish Shop in Pikesville, authorities said. Between 1:34 and 1:38 a.m. on Thursday, two men in black ski masks pried open the rear doors with a crowbar and then pried open the register, police said. They took a cash drawer with $750 and a change bag with about $100 from the deli at 508 Reisterstown Road, according to a police report. The suspects left in a white, 15-passenger van with tinted windows, according to the report. One suspect wore a plaid coat and black jeans, while the other wore a black hooded coat and blue jeans, the police report stated.

The State Department of Agriculture trucks will spray against mosquitoes, using BioMist 30-30 from trucks beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Spraying against mosquitoes is set to continue Thursday in Milford Mill, Pikesville and Lochearn areas. That's because a Baltimore County resident recently contracted West Nile virus from the bugs. If you live west of the Baltimore City line in the Pikesville area—including in Milford Mill and Lochearn—then your area might be set for spray by The Maryland Department of Agriculture. MDA trucks will spray BioMist 30-30 while they're driven through the streets. The department sprayed last week, and they'll be at it again at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Visit the map to see where the spraying will occur. Generally, the boundaries of the area to be sprayed include: Military Avenue, W. Sudbrook Lane, Rockridge Road, Reisterstown Road at Slade (and …

The 120-year-old mainstay business will close its doors soon, and the building is being sold. Who should buy it and what kind of business would do well there?
We're losing our beloved Fields of Pikesville store after it's been in business for 120 years. Recently, owner Jeff Levin said he's going to close the store and sell the building, located at 1401 Reisterstown Road. There may be nothing that can replace that store and eatery in our hearts and our community history. However, we're going to have to get used to thinking of something else taking its place. What would be the best replacement for Fields of Pikesville? A newly renovated office building? Another mattress store? Dave & Busters? Starbucks? A shoe store? Clothing store? Remember, it's near the library and senior center, so what would be convenient for the multitudes that frequent those places? Tell us in the comments box.

The new hair salon is located at 1433 Reisterstown Rd. in downtown Pikesville.
There's a new place to go for men's haircuts. Sports Clips Haircuts is now open at 1433 Reisterstown Rd. in downtown Pikesville. The franchise, one of 890 throughout the U.S., is billed as "a relaxing environment: with sporting events being shown on TVs throughout the salon," according to a news release. Ravi Lahori of First Watch Cafe gave a positive review of the business on Facebook: "Great place & great service," he said. Andrew Emerick, owner of the Pikesville Sport Clips, said in the release that there's no need to make an appointment, and stylists are trained in men's hairstyles. The salon also offers hot-steamed towel treatment, neck and shoulder massages and massaging chairs in the shampoo area, the release states. Store hours are…

The Village Green shopping center appears desolate.
What happened to the 7-Eleven in Village Green shopping center? The windows are papered, the large 7-Eleven sign has been removed. And, if I'm not mistaken, the bushes along Reisterstown Road have been taken out, as well. I've placed a call to KLNB Retail, the company listed on a sign at the site. But until I get a response, maybe Patch readers could add some insight. Do you know when it closed? Do you miss it? If you're not familiar with Village Green, it's the shopping center north of Office Depot on Reisterstown Road. The center used to be the home of the upscale Vassari boutique, at 1638 Reisterstown Rd., which closed in 2010, according to an article in The Baltimore Sun. The address for the 7-Eleven was 1640 Reisterstown Rd. Since the…

All the old houses behind the Fields building disappeared several years ago,to make way for the New Giant store....I thought Walker Ave. could have made a great Antique Row, in Pikesville. Maybe an Antique Mall would be a fitting tribute, with the Fields Store Signs hanging on the walls....Maybe the lunch room could remain open...   more ›
