Baltimore-area Patch readers speak their minds.
This past week, Patch readers got riled about concert venue closures, Sonic coming to town, pet cemeteries and more. Here’s what your neighbors are saying: Towson Patch: “I have been a regular of the Recher for many years. I happen to know for a fact that it hasn't been profitable for them in a long time. They delayed this inevitable change as long as possible. But to survive they must adapt. I am sad to see this place and I doubt I will go to their nightclub, but I won't begrudge them the right to run a business that is actually profitable. It is the responsibility of the town council, and local government to provide safety, handle so-called riots, and police the area. That is not the concern of the business.” – RL on Recher Theatre …

Owners of the concert venue plan to start construction of the Torrent Lounge nightclub in late-March.
(Update 3:49 p.m.)—After a nearly 17-year run, the Recher Theatre, a well-known Towson concert venue, is closing its doors. The Recher family, which owns the venue and the attached bar and restaurant The Rec Room, plans to convert the space into a nightclub called Torrent Lounge. Recher Theatre will keep its liquor license following a violent melee that occured outside its premises in September. The Towson venue appeared before the Baltimore County Liquor Board to defend its license on Monday. Baltimore County and Recher Theatre management came to a written agreement that the venue was not responsible for the incident. The agreement also listed stipulations such as not working with a promoter who would sell tickets in excess of Recher's capacity of 630 people to ensure that a similar event would not occur. Following the decision, Brian Recher, owner of Recher, thanked the Towson business community for its support. "We've entertained millions of people...we had one unfortunate incident," he said. Recher caught the …

County records show two recent incidents at the Towson bar where a melee broke out Sunday morning.
Four days before a melee outside the Recher Theatre, county officials met with an owner of the bar to discuss security and crowd control measures. The meeting, which was at the request of Brian Recher, was in response to a letter sent by the county Liquor Board Commission after a minor incident in August, according to Mike Mohler, chief administrator for the board. "It was a good meeting where the owner reviewed all his security, crowd control and under-age drinking control measures," said Mohler. Like Pikesville Patch on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. Jack Milani, co-chairman of the Baltimore County Licensed Beverage Association, said he typically advises liquor license holders to be proactive in their dealings with the county when …
