Pikesville Players To Perform 'Man of La Mancha'

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Pikesville High School.

The musical Man of La Mancha will be performed this week at Pikesville High School. "Featuring the world renowned song The Impossible Dream, the musical tells the story of imprisoned Miguel de Cervantes, who faces the Spanish Inquisition," according to a news release from the school. "Using imagination, Cervantes transforms into the courageously and humorously optimistic Don Quixote and his sidekick, the realistic foil, Sancho Panza," it states. Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, according to the release. Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the door. Call 410-887-1217 for more information. Officals To Cut Ribbon on Renovated Milford Mill Monday

The ceremony signifies the completion of a 3-year construction project at the Baltimore County school.

A ceremony will be held to signify the completion of a three-year-long renovation project at Milford Mill Academy. The event, which begins at 10 a.m. Mar. 18, will include tours of the renovated building and student performances, according to a news release from the Baltimore County Public Schools system. Principal Roderick W. Harden Sr. and schools superintendent S. Dallas Dance will lead the ceremony, set for 3800 Washington Ave. The project resulted in a new 4,800-square-foot addition that includes a new gymnasium and renovations to the school’s cosmetology, carpentry and other technology labs, media center, auditorium, black box theater and general purpose classrooms, the release states. POLL: Should School Start Later In Pikesville?

The House of Delegates will take up House Bill 1462, which would establish a task force on school start times, later this week.

Are early school start times preventing kids from getting enough sleep? That's the question on a lot minds as the Maryland House of Delegates prepares to take up House Bill 1462 later this week. The bill, which seeks to establish a task force to study whether or not school should start later in the day, will be up for a hearing at 1 p.m. Mar. 15 in Annapolis. Recently, a group that supports earlier school start times posted a blog on Patch asking for experts to testify before the legislature. I know a lot of crotchety old guys are going to say "well, back in my day, we had to get up at the buttcrack of dawn to...." BUT....I have seen the effects of this scheduling on my 2 teens firsthand and I happen to know - daily - that its a good idea. For once, this is something that I have thought of myself many times before and I'm kinda shocked that they had the good sense to bring up.   more ›

Pikesville High School Evacuated after Small Fire in Bathroom

Firefighters are investigating.

Administrators evacuated students from Pikesville High School Tuesday afternoon after a fire broke out in a science area restroom. "The fire is out and is under investigation," said Capt. Bill Allenbaugh of the Baltimore County Career Fire Department No. 2. He said he could not say what kind of fire it was, because it is under investigation.  The department got the call at about 1:30 p.m., Allenbaugh said. It was a small fire inside a restroom in the science area of the school. The school was evacuated when the fire company arrived, he said. The Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company also responded. Sudbrook Magnet Mathlete To Compete in State Event

The student joins teams from Franklin, Hereford, Pikesville and Perry Hall, and three other individual competitors from Ridgely Middle School.

Michael Krasnitski has earned an individual berth at the Maryland State MathCounts Competition. The Sudbrook Magnet Middle School student is one of four Baltimore County Public Schools students who will compete, according to a news release from the school system. The other three are from Ridgely Middle School in Lutherville. Also, teams from Franklin, Hereford, Pikesville, and Perry Hall middle schools earned spots at the competition, set for March 16 at Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus. The other three individual students, from Ridgely, are: Mathcounts is a national program. 'Mathletes' compete to "solve oral and written, timed mathematics problems," the release states. St. Timothy's Basketball Wins Conference Championships

The team earned a 57-37 win over Catholic in the IAAM C Conference championship earlier this month at Goucher College.

St. Timothy's varsity basketball team ruled the court this year, by winning its conference championships. Read the full story on St. Timothy's School website. The private girls school's team is in the IAMM C Conference, and defeated Catholic to take the championship title. "It was the first IAAM championship for St. Timothy’s basketball since the 2004-05 season," according to the school's website. "St. Timothy’s finished the season at 20-1 overall and 18-0 in the C Conference, and ended with a 20-game win streak. Catholic finished at 18-7 overall and 12-5 in the IAAM."

Milford Mill Academy Construction Project Is Complete

Work on a new addition, gymnasium, classrooms, HVAC systems, utilities and new doors took three years.

Milford Mill Academy has a new addition, gymnasium and other amenities, now that a three-year construction project is complete. "The ongoing challenge of this long-term project was not interfering with the day-to-day functions of the high school, as well as maintaining a completely safe environment for students, faculty members and visitors,” Joseph Rode, president of Mullan Contracting Company, said in a statement. Work was completed mainly during school breaks and at night, according to a news release from the Lutherville company. The project included renovations and additions. Cash Stolen from Student's Desk at St. Timothy's

The following information was supplied by the Baltimore County Police Department's Pikesville Precinct. In cases where a criminal charge is noted, it does not indicate a conviction.

A student who boards at St. Timothy's School reported cash stolen from the desk drawer in her room. At 6 p.m. Feb. 15 she came into her room and noticed that the money was missing, and that the lock on the drawer had been unsecured, according to a Feb. 23 report by Baltimore County police. The high school is located at 8400 Greenspring Road in Stevenson.
