Bohemia Manor Ends Pikesville Season

A Cecil County school routs Pikesville 9-0 in Class 1A North baseball playoffs.

After a big victory over Sparrows Point Friday in a first-round playoff game, things didn’t go quite as well for the Pikesville baseball team Monday. Bohemia Manor rolled to a 9-0 victory over Pikesville in a Class 1A North Region second round playoff game in Cecil County. That ended the Panthers’ season, and they finished with an 8-11 record.    The Panthers just couldn’t do much on offense, getting just one hit in the seven-inning game as Bohemia Manor cruised to victory. “Some days you just have to tip your hat to the other team and say, ‘You were better than us today,” said Pikesville coach Joseph Kramer. “I would like to thank our kids for a great season.” Tete Obot got the only hit for Pikesville, a fifth-inning double. But the …

Reviewer Gushes Compliments Over Ruth's Chris Service, Fare

Sizzling meat signals a delicious meal is on the way at the Pikesville restaurant.

If you know of Ruth’s Chris Steak House and its fine reputation, it’s quite possible I’m not going to tell you anything you do not already know. But I’m going to gush anyway. You’ve been warned. I arrived at the Pikesville location, 1777 Reisterstown Road in the Commerce Centre, at about 7 p.m. on a weeknight. The dining room was less than half full, so I was a bit surprised when the hostess asked for my last name. Isn’t that what they do to put you on a waiting list for a table? No, at Ruth’s Chris, that’s how they help your service person address you both personally and formally.  “Good evening, Ms. Wexler,” the waiter said to me, as a young lady filled my water glass and left bread on the table. The atmosphere is at the same time …

Patterson Mill Blanks Pikesville In Regionals

11-run first helps Harford school to 21-0 rout of Panthers on Thursday.

The same problems that have bothered Pikesville High School's varsity softball team all year caused the Panthers trouble again in Thursday's Class 1A North Region playoffs. The Panthers gave up 11 first-inning runs to visiting Patterson Mill to give the Huskies a great start, and they rolled to a 21-0 five-inning victory that ended Pikesville's season. In that first inning, a combination of walks, errors and hits gave the Harford County school the 11 runs and the big lead. That's why Patterson Mill took command early in this first-round game. The errors have been a season-long problem.  "This is what we've been plagued with all year," said Pikesville coach Mike Behrens.   Taylor Hentzman and Rachel Hoffman got the two Pikesville hits. …

Cyclists, Now 1,200 Strong, Ride into National Memorial in D.C.

Precinct 4/Pikesville's Sgt. Vickie Warehime is completing 320 miles today to honor fallen police officers.

(UPDATE 2:39 p.m.)—When someone you love or respect has died, there can be a burning inside to honor them, to show that you cared that they had lived. And this week thousands of police officers who have lost their police brothers or sisters have been acting on that desire by cycling in Police Unity Tour 2011, a nationwide event that honors fallen law enforcement officers. The police cyclists, their muscles burning or numb, churn through hundreds of miles, pushing their own physical limits. It's a celebration of life and sacrifice—the cyclists ride about eight hours a day. And they ride because those officers who died cannot. "We Ride for Those Who Died" is the tour's motto. About 1,200 cyclists who are police officers from throughout the …

Pikesville Softball Drops Three of Four

Panthers ends regular season at 4-13, playoffs scheduled to start late next week.

The Pikesville varsity softball team struggled once more in the final week of the regular season. The Panthers lost to Hereford, Lansdowne and Owings Mills but earned a forfeit victory over Overlea for the second time in two weeks. That let Pikesville end the regular season with a 4-13 record. Now comes the draw for the regional playoffs, set to take place on May 10. Pikesville will find out where it plays, and the Panthers have a first-round game on either Thursday or Friday. The week began for Pikesville with a 14-4 loss at Hereford. For the Panthers, they made it interesting when they loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fifth, trailing, 9-4. But they couldn’t get the crucial hit, and Hereford scored five in the bottom half…

Boys Lacrosse: Offensively Potent Towson Pulls Away from Pikesville

Generals had nine different players score at least one goal.

Towson seniors Ian McDonald and Stefan Holmes combined for eight goals as the visiting Generals beat Pikesville, 16-7, Thursday, May 5. McDonald, a senior attackman, scored three of his four goals during the first half as Towson (6-5) established a 6-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 9-4 advantage by halftime. Including McDonald and Holmes, nine different Towson players tallied at least one goal against the Panthers. “Playoffs are right around the corner so we know we’ve got to step it up, and I think everyone did that [against Pikesville],” Generals coach Matt Clifford said. “We tried some new things on face-offs, and they worked, and we possessed the ball on offense, and that made all the difference.” Freshman Jory Parson …
