Woodlawn High School Students Place in DECA Event

The conference, held this month in Perry Hall, was practice for the state competition next month.

Two Woodlawn High School students placed during a Distributive Education Club of America regional conference this month. Zana Hill and Lacrystal Hill placed third in the hospitality services management category, according to a news release. Businessmen and businesswomen acted as judges during the Feb. 12 conference. The Woodlawn students tied with another team from Baltimore County Public Schools: Lashawn Johnson and Sara Owens of Overlea High School, the release states. One hundred seventy students from Anne Arundel, Howard and Baltimore counties participated at Perry Hall High School. Gwynn Oak Man, 2 Others, Charged in Stabbing

Police say the Jan. 3 crime was drug-related and occurred in Hilltop Acres in Perry Hall.

Police have arrested and charged the suspect and both victims involved in a brutal stabbing incident in Perry Hall.  According to Baltimore County police, at about 7:40 p.m. Jan. 3, Brandon Victorian, of Gwynn Oak, and Donte Smith arrived in the 5000 block of Hilltop Acres Road to meet a third man named Dallus Newson. After a disagreement, Victorian and Smith of Norfolk, VA, assaulted and robbed Newson, who then pulled out a knife and stabbed both men, police stated in a release. Victorian and Smith ran toward Winding Way, where they called 911 and were transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment, police said.  None of the men involved is a local resident and there is no known connection between the men and the …

Police Searching for Missing UMD Student

Twenty-year-old David Johnathan Scherr was last seen in a Ravens shirt with white plaid shorts.

A University of Maryland student has been missing since Dec. 19, according to officials, and police are hoping the public can help them find the college student. David Johnathan Scherr, 20, a Pikesville native, was last seen on campus in College Park at 2 p.m. in a Ravens shirt and white plaid shorts. Police said he may have been driving a black 2013 Ford Escape with Maryland tags 3AX4875. PGPD Cpl. Maria McKinney said today that no new information is available and did not respond to whether or not foul play was involved. Former UMD Championship Team Member Plunges to Death

Baltimore County police identified Earl Badu as the man who jumped from I-695 Thursday.

Earl Badu, 33, a member of the University of Maryland’s 2002 basketball national championship team, has been indentified as the man who died Thursday after jumping from Interstate 695 into a construction area on Interstate 95 near Perry Hall. Baltimore County police identified Badu as the jumper in an email on Saturday. According to University of Maryland’s athletic site, Badu was a member of the school’s 2002 National Championship team after walking onto the squad in the fall of 1998. Badu, a graduate of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, died from his injuries at Bay View Medical Center. According to electronic court records, Badu, who listed a PO Box in Bethesda as his address, was convicted of passing a bad check on Sept. 21.

New Council Members Focusing on Planning, Revitalization Issues

Group of freshman lawmakers say they will focus on specific needs of their districts

A majority of the five new Baltimore County Council members who will be sworn in next week say they will focus on issues pertaining to planning and revitalization in their districts during their first year in office. Council members-elect Vicki Almond and Tom Quirk, both Democrats, and David Marks, a Republican, said they would focus on issues such as smart growth, revitalization of the downtown areas of Pikesville and Towson and seeing that community plans in their districts are adopted into law. Steve, I think its around 15% in our district. The county like the country is facing a budget crisis and I don't think bike trails is the answer. I think when they get into the nitty-gritty all the fun and games will be over.   more ›
