Baltimore Police have released the name of the officer involved in the incident that left a police trainee critically wounded Tuesday afternoon. Officer William S. Kern, 46, was assigned as an instructor in the education and training section in Baltimore Police. A University of Maryland Baltimore Police trainee was shot in the head by an instructor during an exercise at an Owings Mills training facility at the Rosewood Center, which is run by the department. A police trainee is in critical condition Wednesday morning after being shot in the head during a training exercise in Owings Mills. At 2:30 p.m., a University of Maryland Baltimore Police trainee was shot by an instructor at the Rosewood Center, according to Baltimore Police Detective Angela Carter-Watson. The trainee, who is in his 40s, was shot in the front of his head, said Thomas Scalea, the chief physician at shock trauma, during a press conference Tuesday night. Officers found the body of a 33-year-old woman at her apartment Tuesday night.
UPDATE 1:25 p.m. Feb. 6: Baltimore County Police arrested a 33-year-old man Wednesday morning in an Owings Mills homicide. Police found the body of Katie Hadel, 33, in her apartment on Wellhaven Circle Tuesday night while responding to a domestic disturbance report. Two small children were found unharmed in the apartment, according to a police press release. Hadel was stabbed multiple times and was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said. At 10:09 p.m. Tuesday, officers from the Pikesville precinct were called to the unit block of Wellhaven Circle. A burglar forced open the front door of an Owings Mills apartment this week, damaging the door and ransacking the rooms. The crime occurred between 1 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, at a Chase Lea apartment in the unit block of Hartley Circle. "The door appeared to be kicked in," a report from Baltimore County police states. There was $900 in damage to the door. Because the apartment was ransacked, the resident could not immediately inform police what items were taken, it states.

The Baltimore-based cupcakery will open its fourth location at Valley Village Shoppes in Owings Mills.
Owings Mills will get a little bit sweeter by the holiday season with a new cupcake shop coming to town. Charm City Cupcakes will open its fourth location at 9101 Reisterstown Road in the Valley Village Shoppes in time for the 2012 holiday season. Concrete patching is in progress in both directions on I-795, between I-695 and Owings Mills.
Ongoing concrete patching will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Monday on I-795 from the beltway to Owings Mills. The work will close a single lane in each direction during the day, and two lanes at night, if needed, after 10 p.m. According to the State Highway Administration, that work on both the northbound and southbound lanes will continue on the following schedule: Weekdays: Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Single lane closures. Weeknights: Sunday through Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning. If needed, there could be double lane closures after 10 p.m.

An argument between friends turned into a crime after the man allegedly put both hands around her neck. According to a report from Baltimore County police, at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, during a verbal altercation, the man allegedly went into the woman's bedroom, allegedly grabbed her off the bed and threw her against the wall. Her head allegedly struck the wall at her home in the 8300 block of Township Dr. in Owings Mills. "The suspect then placed both his hands around the victim's neck and began choking her," the report states. He allegedly threatened to kill the victim if she called police. Police know who the suspect is and have issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of first- and second-degree assaut, the report states.

Councilwoman Vicki Almond will be guest speaker at the the Pikesville Chamber of Commerce's annual Update on Pikesville. On Thursday, Almond will update the business, progress and issues in Pikesville and the surrounding area, according to a news release from the chamber. She is is the chairwoman of the Baltimore County Council and represents District 2. The meeting is set for 8-9:30 a.m. Thursday, and will be held at Linwoods restaurant, 25 Crossroads Drive, Owings Mills. The cost for tickets is $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Kosher meals are available with advance notice.

A burglar came onto a Pikesville man's property, went into his vehicle and stole an iPod and a black backpack. Owings Mills Englefield Square. Unit block. Between 6 p.m. Sept. 30 and 8 a.m. Wednesday. A resident reported that cash, and jewelry were missing from her residence. There were pry marks on the door, she said.
