Friends of Katie Hadel, the woman who was killed in Owings Mills Tuesday night, have been expressing their condolences on her Facebook page.
Katie Hadel has been described as “gorgeous,” “great” and a “beautiful spirit” by her Facebook friends. Since her death on Tuesday night, friends have posted memories and condolences on Hadel’s Facebook wall. Hadel was stabbed Tuesday night in her Owings Mills apartment, and pronounced dead at the scene. “The universe lost a beautiful spirit with your passing. It was too soon. I will never forget the kindness you showed as one of the first people I met when I moved to MD in middle school,” wrote Heather Hahn. “As silly as it sounds, I never used a locker before and you took the time to show me how it worked. Baltimore County Police have charged an Annapolis man with murder in the death of Owings Mills resident Katie Hadel. Jeffrey Michael Shiflett, 33, of the 1700 block of Saint Margarets Road in Annapolis, is charged with one count of first-degree murder, according to a Baltimore County Police press release. He was arrested without incident Wednesday morning shortly after 11 a.m. when an officer spotted him walking on the street in the Reisterstown area, police said. He is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Baltimore County police arrested two men last week in the Sept. 30, 2009, stabbing death of Rodney Lewis in his Randallstown home. On Jan. 2, police arrested Eric Isaiah Johnson, according to a news release. Then, on Jan. 3, police arrested Leonard Briscoe. Both have been charged with first-degree murder. At about 4 p.m. Sept. 30, 2009, officers went to the Lewis' residence in the 9500 block of Liberty Road. During their investigation, police found out that Johnson was staying with Lewis and Lewis' wife. On that day someone had called and reported "finding the body of Rodney Lewis deceased on the kitchen floor," a county news release states. Sterlin Matthews, 19, of Lansdowne, was sentenced Thursday to 115 years in prison for killing a 16-year-old boy on Halloween in Baltimore Highlands in 2010. According to a statement from the State's Attorney for Baltimore County, Matthews was convicted Oct. 25 in Baltimore County Circuit Court of second-degree murder, 11 counts of first-degree assault and three counts of Use of a Handgun in the Commission of a Crime of Violence. The murder occurred Oct. 31, 2010, when Dequan Burks, 16, was with a group of teens for Halloween in Lansdowne. Lawyers say the 16-year-old honor student was shown "intoxicated" in a video with her accused killer, according to news reports.
Prosecutors in the case against the accused killer of Phylicia Barnes will show a video at trial depicting the teenage victim “intoxicated and engaging in sexual relations” with her accused killer and others, the Baltimore Sun reports. Barnes, a 16-year-old from North Carolina, went missing from Baltimore, near Pikesville, three days after Christmas 2010, while she was in Baltimore visiting her half-sister. Barnes’s body was found in the Susquehanna River in April 2011. The search for Barnes spread out across Maryland, reaching Howard County in the spring of 2011. The Baltimore police have released stills from video surveillance of the suspected murderers of a 16-year-old boy in hopes of finding the killers. The grainy photos, released by police, show a group of four people walking across Greenmount Avenue through oncoming traffic, pointing weapons toward the west side of the street at about 8 p.m. on Nov. 20. Daniel Pearson, 16, was found at the scene and pronounced dead at an area hospital. A 22-year-old man and a 33-year-old man were also wounded in the shooting. Antoine M. Reed Jr. was sentenced Tuesday in Baltimore County Circuit Court to life without parole in the 2008 shooting death of a Woodlawn apartment complex manager, according to a news release from the State's Attorney's office. Judge John J. Nagle III sentenced Reed, of Gwynn Oak, in the death of Milton Barnes, the manager of the Hunter's Crossing Apartments complex. Reed was convicted by a jury in August of first-degree murder and unlawful use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence . According to the release, Burks had been with a group of teenagers for Halloween in Lansdowne. The man convicted of murdering Owings Mills resident Scott Greenberg by shooting him six times in the back of the head was sentenced to life with parole plus forty years on Friday. Gerald Edward Sears, 33, was sentenced Friday by Judge Patrich Cavanaugh in the Baltimore County Circuit Court for the murder, which took place on Aug. 22, 2009, at Greenberg’s parents house on Velvet Valley Way in Owings Mills, according to a press release from the Baltimore County State’s Attorney's Office. Sears killed Greenberg, who was 50 at the time, over a money dispute, the release said. State's Attorney: Reginald Frederick faces life plus 30 years in prison in teen's killing.
Reginald Frederick, 22, of the 3900 block of Nemo Rd. in Randallstown, was convicted Monday of first-degree murder. During a hearing Monday in Baltimore County Circuit Court, he was also convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted robbery, according to a news release from the office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore County. Willie Cedric Jackson, 19, of died as a result of one gunshot in the head during a drug-related, attempted robbery at about 11:45 p.m. March 27, 2011, the release states. The incident occurred in the 4000 block of Winlee Road in Randallstown. Judge John J. Nagle III set Frederick's sentencing for Oct. 24, the release states.
