A Westminster man was arrested after a burglary last week at a home in the Greenspring area of Pikesville. At 2:50 p.m. May 15, a witness saw a man go into a yard in the 2800 block of Smith Avenue in Wellwood and take a piece of "scrap metal" from the residence, according to a report by Baltimore County police. Later, at Smith Avenue and Carla Road, police identified Robert Evan Currence, 37, of Westminster as a suspect in the case and arrested him, the report states. Currence, of the 900 block of Bear Branch Road in Westminster, was charged with fourth-degree burglary with theft, theft of less than $100, fraud per identity to avoid prosecution, and making a false statement, according to court records. On Monday night, regular gasoline was $3.37 per gallon, three cents higher than the $3.34 per gallon at the Mobil station at 1509 Reisterstown Road.

An afternoon fire took hold Monday at Village Cleaners.
Firefighters rushed to Greenspring Shopping Center Monday afternoon after a dryer reportedly caught fire at Village Cleaners. The Pikesville home holds nightly lamplighting ceremonies during the Festival of Lights. On Monday, the lighting ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m., with Baltimore County and state elected officials.
UPDATE (10 p.m.) Chanukah House will celebrate the Festival of Lights this year with a newly donated 11-foot tall menorah. The house owned by Yitz and Sora Fleischman is being decorated for the holiday and will soon become a center community activity once again. This is the third year the Fleischmans have decorated the outside of their home for the holiday, using the same decorations from the former sponsors who decorated their home on Park Heights Avenue. A woman said narcotics were missing from her purse after it was snatched Sunday in the Greenspring area near Wellwood. According to a report by Baltimore County police, at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, five men surrounded the 42-year-old woman, who was in front of a residence in the 6600 block of Sanzo Road. They allegedly stole her purse and ran, the report states. She said she found her purse, but a pill bottle that had been filled with pills was empty, it states. Police searched but did not find the suspects. They were described as five men, ages 18-20, and between 5-foot 9-inches and 5-foot 10-inches tall. One wore a black, hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, and another wore a red jacket with blue jeans, the report states.

BGE will appear before a City Council committee on Wednesday to discuss how future long-term power outages—such as the power failure experienced by many North Baltimore residents after June’s derecho—can be avoided. According to the council’s legislative calendar, the informational hearing before the Housing and Community Development Committee on the lessons learned from the storm will be held at 5 p.m., at City Hall. Don't count on the Shell station at Greenspring Shopping Center for getting fueled up any time soon. It's pumps are gone for now, as part of renovations. However, it's work bays are still open, according to signs at the site.

An arsonist set a pile of magazines on fire near a propane tank outside an Owings Mills 7-Eleven. At about 1:02 a.m. July 13, police were called to the store at 8890 McDonogh Rd., where the suspected arson had occurred. Siding on the building was damaged and gasoline was spilled around the area. Lochearn Westridge Road. 6600 block. Between 1 a.m. July 9 and 2 p.m. July 14. A burglar removed a master lock on a shed door and stole some equipment. Stolen were a trimmer, a leaf blower and a John Deere mower. It's not known how the burglar transported the items away from the home. Milford Mill Liberty Road. 8011.
