Carroll County Man Charged in Burglary on Smith Avenue

A Westminster man was arrested after a burglary last week at a home in the Greenspring area of Pikesville. At 2:50 p.m. May 15, a witness saw a man go into a yard in the 2800 block of Smith Avenue in Wellwood and take a piece of "scrap metal" from the residence, according to a report by Baltimore County police. Later, at Smith Avenue and Carla Road, police identified Robert Evan Currence, 37, of Westminster as a suspect in the case and arrested him, the report states. Currence, of the 900 block of Bear Branch Road in Westminster, was charged with fourth-degree burglary with theft, theft of less than $100, fraud per identity to avoid prosecution, and making a false statement, according to court records. Pikesville Greenspring Community Coalition Annual Meeting Is Set

It will be held at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, and the group asks attendees to arrive at 7 p.m.

Sixteen communities will gather this month for the Pikesville Greenspring Community Coalition's annual meeting. It's open to all who are residents of the coalition's 16 homeowners associations, its individual members, according to an event announcement. How's the Price? Greenspring Shell after Renovations

On Monday night, regular gasoline was $3.37 per gallon, three cents higher than the $3.34 per gallon at the Mobil station at 1509 Reisterstown Road.

Some Pikesville Patch Facebook fans have said in the past that Shell at Greenspring Shopping Center had higher prices than some other stations in Pikesville. But, since Shell reopened after renovations this fall, the prices seem comparable. Have you noticed? And how can anyone help but notice the TV set up at each gas pump? Here are the lowest gasoline prices elsewhere in Pikesville, according to Pikesville Patch's Commute tool. Dryer Fire Interrupts Businesses at Greenspring Shopping Center

An afternoon fire took hold Monday at Village Cleaners.

Firefighters rushed to Greenspring Shopping Center Monday afternoon after a dryer reportedly caught fire at Village Cleaners. Pikesville Crime: Robbers Surround Woman, Steal Purse, Pills

A woman said narcotics were missing from her purse after it was snatched Sunday in the Greenspring area near Wellwood. According to a report by Baltimore County police, at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, five men surrounded the 42-year-old woman, who was in front of a residence in the 6600 block of Sanzo Road. They allegedly stole her purse and ran, the report states. She said she found her purse, but a pill bottle that had been filled with pills was empty, it states. Police searched but did not find the suspects. They were described as five men, ages 18-20, and between 5-foot 9-inches and 5-foot 10-inches tall. One wore a black, hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, and another wore a red jacket with blue jeans, the report states.

City Council Hearing on Derecho Lessons Set for Wednesday

Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke introduced the resolution calling for the hearing.

BGE will appear before a City Council committee on Wednesday to discuss how future long-term power outages—such as the power failure experienced by many North Baltimore residents after June’s derecho—can be avoided. According to the council’s legislative calendar, the informational hearing before the Housing and Community Development Committee on the lessons learned from the storm will be held at 5 p.m., at City Hall. Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke introduced the resolution calling for the hearing this summer. This June a rare derecho with powerful winds formed quickly and pushed through the area giving BGE little time to prepare a response. Greenspring Gas Station Closed for Improvements

The work bays are still open, however, at Shell at Greenspring Shopping Center, 2859 Smith Ave. in Pikesville.

Don't count on the Shell station at Greenspring Shopping Center for getting fueled up any time soon. It's pumps are gone for now, as part of renovations. However, it's work bays are still open, according to signs at the site.

Pikesville Crime: Arson at 7-Eleven, Cigarettes Stolen

The following information was supplied by the Baltimore County Police Department. In cases were a criminal charge is noted, the information provided does not indicate a conviction.

An arsonist set a pile of magazines on fire near a propane tank outside an Owings Mills 7-Eleven. At about 1:02 a.m. July 13, police were called to the store at 8890 McDonogh Rd., where the suspected arson had occurred. Siding on the building was damaged and gasoline was spilled around the area. Lochearn Westridge Road. 6600 block. Between 1 a.m. July 9 and 2 p.m. July 14. A burglar removed a master lock on a shed door and stole some equipment. Stolen were a trimmer, a leaf blower and a John Deere mower. It's not known how the burglar transported the items away from the home. Milford Mill Liberty Road. 8011. Between 3:30 and 3:40 a.m. July 14. A burglar destroyed the glass front door before stealing Newport cigarettes and lighters. …
