Pair Who Allegedly Stole Identities Plead Guilty

Man and his girlfriend, both of Woodlawn, plead guilty to conspiring to commit fraud and aggravated identity theft against hundreds of people in 2009.

Two Woodlawn residents have pleaded guilty to passing counterfeit checks written from the accounts of more than 250 people, including doctors who applied for fellowships at Johns Hopkins Hospital. It was 2009 when Derrick Hill, 52, and his girlfriend Renee Cabell, 51, "conspired with their co-defendants John Coffey and Tawney King to negotiate counterfeit checks drawn on victim bank accounts," according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland. Coffey and King pleaded guilty earlier to the same charges. "The defendants obtained cash, merchandise and services worth over $188,000. Job Loss Led to Healing Work at Doctors Express

For Connor Ferguson, owner of the Doctors Express in Pikesville, a corporate layoff led to an opportunity to offer medical services to the community.

Connor Ferguson took a bad situation—a layoff from HSBC Bank where he had worked for six years—and turned it into a life-changing opportunity.  The Columbia-area native now works for himself as owner of the Doctors Express franchise in Pikesville, which offers medical care services for patients with immediate health needs. "My overall goal is to give the community convenient access to physicians," he said, noting that all Doctors Express physicians have emergency room experience. "The fact of the matter is that the urgent care world can be stigmatized by lack of expertise, knowledge and compassion," Ferguson said.
