The Jewish Girl Scouts Troop sold boxes of cookies, while congregants of Chabad Center in Pikesville handed out menorahs to people who don't have them. It was Monday night—the third of the eight-night Festival of Lights—when state and county elected officials and community members gathered at The Chanukah House in Pikesville for the menorah lighting ceremony. A new church at 10240 Liberty Road could be ready for worship as early as Dec. 23, said the Rev. Paul Santos.
It's known by locals as "Jesus Hospital" and "Miracle Hill" by some, but formally as the Baltimore Christian Faith Center. And come this winter, the congregation will have a new home, right across the alley from its existing building. "Groundbreaking was Sunday, and yesterday surveyors came and staked out the place for the bulldozers on Friday," the Rev. Paul Santos said. On Monday, bulldozers will begin digging, he said. The center's new building will be at 10240 Liberty Road, right next to the current one at 10308 Liberty Road. The church is beginning an $800,000 fundraising effort to pay for its new location, which will, at first, hold 160 people. Later, seating for up to 500 will be added, Santos said. Principal Sharon Robbins was named Principal of the Year.
Sharon Robbins, principal of Sudbrook Magnet Middle School was named Principal of the Year for Region III by Magnet Schools of America. She earned the honor because Sudbrook was one of five schools to receive the 2010 National Schools of Distinction in Arts Education Award from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, according to an announcement from MSA. This week, Del. Dana Stein presented Robbins with a citation as well, according to a statement from Stein. She received the citation "For succeeding in providing innovative programs that promote equity, diversity and academic excellence for students in magnet schools," it states.

Elected officials and BGE representatives are holding a town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Pikesville Branch Library to hear problems residents may have had during Hurricane Irene.
Join elected officials and BGE representatives in Pikesville tonight during a town hall meeting focusing on questions or concerns about BGE service. This meeting is being held with Hurricane Irene in mind. In 2011, many in Pikesville and the surrounding area found themselves without power—some for days. Del. Dana Stein, Sen. Bobby Zirkin, delegates Jon Cardin and Dan Morhaim, and Baltimore County Councilwoman Vicki Almond are scheduled to attend.
