Varsity Panthers Take Third in County Cheer Championships

Pikesville High School advances to regional competition set for Nov. 10 at New Town High School.

Varsity cheerleaders from Pikesville High School will compete in the North Regional Cheerleading Championships next month, the team's first regional berth. The team earned a spot at regionals after finishing third Saturday in the Baltimore County Varsity Cheer Championships, said Shaun O'Branski, head coach. That competition was held at Community College of Baltimore County in Dundalk. PHS placed third out of 24 teams. Eastern Technical High School placed first, and Hereford High School placed second. The third place finish is a strong showing for the Panthers team, which placed eighth last year during both the fall and winter seasons, O'Branski said. Five Things to Know this Week

Temperatures could reach 100 degrees today, with thunderstorms this afternoon. On Tuesday, don't miss National Night Out, or the Pikesville Farmers Market, held at its new location, Office Depot.

1. Another scorcher. The temperature could reach about 100 degrees today, but there could be thunderstorms as well, from 4-9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service forecast for Pikesville. On Tuesday, expect a high of about 95 degrees. And there's a slight chance that it could rain after 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to the forecast. Showers are a possibility Wednesday and Saturday, as well. 2. National Night Out is Tuesday, and Pikesville Precinct police report there are eight planned community gatherings. Pikesville Junior Varsity Cheerleading Scores a Win at Hereford Invitational

Pikesville High School squads compete at the second annual Hereford Winter Invitational in Hereford, Md. See pictures of Hereford, Oakland Mills, Marriott's Ridge, Eastern Tech and the Frederick Cadets.

       This wasn’t the year for the Pikesville High School varsity cheerleading squad at the 2nd Annual Hereford Winter Cheerleading Invitational. If the performance of the junior varsity squad is any indication though, the future is promising.         While perennial favorite Eastern Tech bounded home with another win in the varsity division, the Pikeville Panthers JV squad scored somewhat of an upset win while besting eight other teams.       The Lady Panthers took to the mat last in the JV competition. They opened with several lifts, added in some tosses and never looked back on their way to a win.        The second edition of this regional cheerleading competition at Hereford High School, in upper Baltimore County, attracted 23 teams …
