Author Discusses 'The End of Country'; Bookstore Plans More Book Signings

Seamus McGraw signed copies of his book Tuesday at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Pikesville. Authors Pam Reaves, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee and Jen Yates are set to visit in the coming months.

When a company wants to pay good money to lease a farmer's property to mine for natural gas, it spurs moral and ethical questions. In The End of Country, author Seamus McGraw tells the stories of Pennsylvanians who must decide whether to accept riches in exchange for possibly ruining their land and water supply. According to publisher Random House Inc.'s website, "Along the way, McGraw introduces us to a host of colorful characters, from a gas company land agent with a Green Beret to a wizened quarryman with an old coonhound, a .22 rifle, and an unerring sense of right and wrong who leads a personal crusade to police the gas company’s operations." 'The Jersey Sting' Authors to Visit Pikesville on Sunday

Federal informant in the story has ties to Pikesville.

In July 2009, New Jersey was stunned by the arrest of 44 people, including three mayors, five Orthodox rabbis, two state legislators and the deputy mayor of New Jersey. The charges? Corruption, which included a $50 million bank fraud and black market kidney operation. The three-year investigation leading up to that day is detailed by Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalists Ted Sherman of The Newark Star-Ledger and Josh Margolin of the New York Post in their recently published book The  Jersey Sting.
