Baltimore City Officer Indicted in Training Shooting

Officer William S. Kern was charged with two misdemeanors stemming from the February incident in Owings Mills.

(Updated 1:56 p.m.)—A Baltimore City police officer has been indicted in Baltimore County on misdemeanor charges of second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, the Baltimore County State's Attorney's office said. Officer William S. Kern, 46, allegedly shot a University of Maryland Baltimore police trainee in the head during a training exercise at the Rosewood Center in Owings Mills in February. The grand jury indictment identifies the trainee as Raymond Northern Gray. Gray was critically injured. "We continue to cooperate with all outside agencies involved in this extensive investigation," city Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts said in a statment. "Meanwhile, as we come to grips with this terrible incident, our own comprehensive …

The officer made a tragic mistake. No intention " at all" to harm anyone. When I used to go through simulations ( war games in the military ) the weapons were checked several times to ensure safety. Only then did we go on the training area.Mistakes can cost lives and thankfully the person is still alive but "unfortunately " has permanet injuries.   more ›

Questions Surround Death of Baltimore County Employee

Baltimore County Police are not investigating the death.

(Update 5:17 p.m.)— A Baltimore County employee is dead following unknown circumstances. Baltimore County police are not investigating the death, and referred all questions to the county's office of communications. A 911 call came from the former Gunpowder Falls Golf Course, at 11101 Raphael Road in Kingsville midday Monday, said Ellen Kobler, a county spokeswoman. The employee, a 57-year-old man, worked for the property management division of Baltimore County's Office of Budget and Finance. The county has not released additional details about the death. Kobler said no further information is being released until the county receives a report from the medical examiner's office. Stay with Patch for updates.

MAP: How Much Snow Has Fallen in Your Community?

The Baltimore Metro area was expecting between 5 and 11 inches of snow during this week's winter storm. See how many inches have fallen in your area with the LIVE map below.

The map above, provided by the National Weather Service, shows total snowfall in your Patch area over the past 3 days. The map is centered around the red marker, which is in the middle of your Patch's coverage area, and the map updates every six hours, starting around 2 a.m. each day. It updates as Skywarn volunteers file their reports, so check back later to see more accurate statistics. Note: This map is not visible on some mobile devices. The effects of the snowstorm that began Tuesday night have been hit-or-miss throughout the Baltimore Metro area, about 5 inches fell in Westminster but less than 1 inch in Parkville, for example, according to the map. Forecast: More Snow, 11 Inches, Could Accumulate Wednesday

Wednesday will be filled with snow, rain and wind with 3-8 inches of snow expected to stack up during the day, and some more at night.

Parts of the Baltimore Metro already had about 3 inches of rain and snow overnight, but more snow, up to 11 inches in some communities, is expected through Wednesday night. A winter storm warning is in effect for the larger region: the Baltimore and D.C. Metro area, through 3 a.m. Thursday, when as much as 12 inches of snow could accumulate, according to the National Weather Service. "Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous," the warning states. "Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency." Snowstorm Could Drop Up to 10 inches in Baltimore Metro Area

Most communities could see 4-8 inches total, but Randallstown, Owings Mills and Reisterstown could get the most, at up to 10 inches from Tuesday night through Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

As the snowstorm approaches, and the forecast gets more specific, it looks like the Baltimore Metro area could get up to about 8 inches of snow from late Tuesday night through Wednesday night. However, Owings Mills and Reisterstown could get more, at up to 10 inches, according to the National Weather Service. A winter weather watch, including snow, is in effect for the county, as well as for the Baltimore and D.C. metro areas. During this time, wind gusts could get as high as 35 mph.
