UPDATE: Quarry Bagel & Cafe Is Sold

An auction was held last week, and another Quarry Lake business owner bought the popular breakfast and lunch restaurant.

UPDATE (3 p.m.)—Quarry Bagel & Cafe, a breakfast and lunch restaurant at The Shops at Quarry Lake, has been sold. "It sold to another food tenant in Quarry Lake," said Scott Frank, auction specialist for commercial and residential properties. He represents Alex Copper Chattel Auctions. Current owner Geoff Friedman said it sold to the owners of California Tortilla, and that transitioning ownership will take up to three weeks. During that time Quarry Bagel will remain open—and beyond. Friedman said he will help the new owner transition into operating the business. And it's likely that the new owner will keep the restaurant open for dinner. An auction of the business "in its entirety" was held Friday, according to the auction announcement. …

Brooklyn Water Bagel Has Numerous Options, Small Location

Pikesville's new bagel shop offers a myriad of choices for lunch, from bagelwiches to whitefish salad. But don't expect to get a seat—at least not during peak hours.

The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co.'s debut has been highly anticipated in Pikesville—a town whose residents know bagels. And customers have been turning out in large numbers, even though the dining area is too small to accommodate the new-restaurant hordes. As we gazed over the crowded dining room, it was apparent that it held more people waiting than sitting. That was during the lunch hour this week when I went to get my first taste of the water, the bagels, and the whitefish salad. This restaurant sells its own water, reportedly made to taste like the water found in Brooklyn, NY. Restaurant literature says this particular water is used to make the bagels. "It's All About the Water," according to the restaurant chain motto. Does it …

Stopped by the other day and got some bagels from these guys. They are great! I've never had a problem with Goldberg's and I love them as well. The one advantage that these people have is that since they are not kosher, they will be open on Saturday's. For those who keep kosher, this means that they will use Goldberg's. When you think about it we have a win-win situation here for TRUE bagel …   more ›

Pikesville's Brooklyn Water Bagel Is First in Maryland

The store that opened last week on Hooks Lane is the first of 24 planned throughout the state.

The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company now open at Hooks Village is the first of 24 stores planned in Maryland, according to the franchise owner. Bob Ammon, development agent and owner of the Maryland franchise, said in a statement that his local partnership will open the majority of stores during the next five years. He chose the Pikesville site because of the high-income demographic, because it's close to residential neighborhoods, and has consumer traffic throughout the day, according to a news release. "We are cognizant of the highly-developed and sophisticated consumer tastes for bagels in this marketplace, and believe this is the ideal spot to capture their imagination and change their bagel-shopping habits,” he said in the …

Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Opens in Pikesville

New business opens on Hooks Lane despite problems from last weekend's storm.

The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company dodged a few bullets and officially opened for business on Monday. Owner Bob Ammon's company will be open from 6:30 a.m.-4 p.m. each day at its site on Hooks Lane. It opened Monday despite problems from this weekend's storm. The business lost its electrical power after Friday's storm, but got it back around 4 a.m. Sunday. In addition, their food service company let them use a refrigerated truck to take care of the food while the power was out. That helped them keep everything in place and be ready to go Monday. "We were happy to have that [opening]," Ammon said. ""We were happy to acommodate people who might not have had power." The store is 2,865 square feet, and was very busy the first day, which…
