A man is murdered and all you can say is wrong location?? Lansdowne mail runs out of the halethorpeRead More post office and so it is considered halethorpe as well as a few other locations.
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.
dwayne roberson April 23, 2014 at 07:02 am
Affirmative Action was the Planners foolhardy attempt to fix racism with racism. It is indicative ofRead More a pay back attitude apparent in Holder and Obama. This does not advance the actual state of equality. It does perpetuate the bitterness that the race industry and Democrat party rely on for power. A return to colorblind meritocracy is all that can really be fair and equal.
Maria Young April 23, 2014 at 08:25 am
Its about time. Now do the same in other states and in the state workforce too. Cleanup upRead More America, grow the economy? Thats a start, anyone running a business knows this. These people must change their culture, thats why they have so many failures and I am tired of hearing the same spin for 30 years.
Steven Serebrenik April 23, 2014 at 09:05 am
I believe that affirmative action had it's place in history. It helped a lot of black people butRead More adversely affected a lot of white people who could not get student loans and jobs....It seemed at the time that after all that had been done to black people, this was the way to go. I'm speaking of the 60's. This is 50 years later. Black people have progressed. In my mind, white people have been redeemed by now. Otherwise, when does it end. It's like a tax...NEVER. HOW FAIR IS THAT?
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.
CowDung April 23, 2014 at 09:18 am
"School boards dont actually read the textbooks they order, unless there are complaints, andRead More honestly, I didnt notice either until the CC thing came up. Then I said "What the hell is this?" " ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: That is one good thing that is coming from all the propagandists fighting against the Common Core Standards--it seems that most are actually looking at their kid's textbooks for the first time. They wrongly blame school curriculum choices on Common Core, but at least they are starting to pay attention to what their kids are doing in school.

Oh, this just in. Product placement on the PARCC exam. "A busboy spills a MUG rootbeer. Mug isRead More a trademark of the Pepsi Cola company...." and a story about perseverance, as encapsulated in the Nike Slogan, Just do it, copyright Nike , Inc. No wonder there is a gag order about the contents of the exam. They don't want parents to know. Does that NOT frighten you? Or at least piss you off? Remeber learning in school about subliminal advertising, how movie thewatres used to flash "drink Coca-Cola" every few frames, so fast it was not picked up consciously by movie-goers, but succeeded in increasing concession sales? Who exactly is regulating the content of the tests? There should be NO marketing to children in schools. Like I said, the idea of national standards sounds so reasonable, but they way this has been implemented, and the HUGE amounts of money poured in ALL by companies that stand to profit from a "market" for and of EVERY schoolchild in America, makes this "product", CC and all it's related materials, tainted. Suspect. And you think you can send your child to private school? Most have to adopt CC, because the architect of the CC, David Coleman, is now the President of the College Board, and will be designing the SAT's to reflect whatever the hell he decided already should be the qualifications for college readiness. Do you see the levels of conflict of interest here? Oh, and Home-schooling. Pearson publishing has spent the last couple of years quietly accumulating a portfolio of on-line home school providers. Good luck figuring out which ones.
Jennifer April 23, 2014 at 09:32 am
Other "countries" have national standards, but most of the "countries" cited areRead More the size of one of our States. There is an International Baccalaureate that is common to western Europe, but it is also offered at (very few) high schools in the US. Why very few? Because it is much more rigorous than most "national" standards, including the common core.

Funny how Netflix is the "bad boy" yet those that offer more commercials than the movieRead More itself are just fine :) Cable today is pure garbage, a 2 hr movie will last half the night with all those commercials and since all sports from all countries, could be seen live over the internet...cable is obsolete. Netflix is weak but is a fine alternative to cable for now. (as for news, please, you must be brain-dead to get your news from cable...with all of them all over you from second you start the computer to turn on the radio to even the second you "check" the e-mail on the phone. so Reuters don't worry about Netflix, worry about cable companies whose stocks should be worth a little more than half an ounce of dirt
Michael Brennick April 22, 2014 at 06:46 pm
Where are the stories about the rates charged by the Cable cartels-???---Especially Leftist,Read More Democratic Comcast, the premier robber barons, who fill the campaign tills of the Dumocrats.

Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess theRead More nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.

I don't believe this kid is competent enough to make those decisions. Those kids need to beRead More prosecuted to the fullest and if the does judge does not agree he needs to step down.

Dorie, stowing away on a plane is a crime. And no, the boy himself did not pose a threat. But theRead More fact that he (anyone) can get that close to a plane poses a threat. I have to take off my flippin' shoes and get patted down, but apparently you can just walk up and plant a bomb in the wheel well.
april ann April 22, 2014 at 01:30 pm
I agree with B. Dub 100%! How was this kid able to scale a fence and just walk right over to theRead More plane? TSA: for all the harassing you do in the terminal...you ain't all that!! As far as the kid being a runaway..maybe he does face some serious abuse issues at home. He's damn lucky to be alive. But, I raised three boys, and a 16 year old boy can runaway for any collage of reasons. My kids never ran away but, I'm wondering if the fact that the plane was going to HAWAII has anything to do with it. It sounds a little compulsive to me. CPA need good follow up on this. Thank you lucky stars kid!

It wasn't a miracle that he survived, it was Easter Sunday, and good things always happen.Read More "always look on the bright side of life"......Life of Brian........overlooked miracle worker....... Not a problem to let other kids of similar intelligence do the same thing, it will improve the human gene pool immensely, and the human race will benefit overall as a result.

What is the big deal? Pull up the shirt and get on with it. Most Americans don't know how to dressRead More anyway - Europeans laugh at us all the time about our non-existent dress code. Let's face it, we dress like slobs most of the time.

Surprised that anything was said to her. We went to WDW and had a woman behind us on Small World whoRead More was breastfeeding without covering up. We have no problem with breast feeding your baby - just cover yourself. It should be a private moment with you and your baby. A older man asked her to cover up. She was apologized to and is still whining. 15 minutes are up.

I don't think were doing starving people any favors by sending them hot dogs that might make themRead More sick.

Just another argument for KOSHER hot dogs..... All of the great taste and NONE OF THE CRAP !

Poland has already outlawed kosher killing as inhumane--it involves voiding the arteries of theRead More animal's tainted blood while it is still alive....The US will soon follow despite its Jewish lobby.

Agranon - I'm a moron because I am tired of everybody and his mother trying to put themselves inRead More every story? Then so be it - I'm a moron. To be honest, I am also really tired of all the people that were compelled to run the Boston Marathon because "I had to finish for all those who couldn't." Get over yourself. It was a tragedy. Those responsible should be ripped apart by dogs. I sincerely hope the families of those affected can move on somehow. But how does Mary Jane Smith running the marathon help ANYBODY but herself? She's not doing it for "those who can't". She's doing it to maybe get on TV and she's probably feeling a little sanctimonious because she ran 26.2 miles and you didn't. It's like, "what did YOU do to help these people?" Same as you - nothing.

Who are any of these bums this election... Brown? ...why the hell would Kenneth Ulman be his runningRead More mate...given that he is alot more versed with MD government than Brown? And how about that chick that looks like Racheal Maddow? Btw...Who the hell is Brown and what has he accomplished...I just know he's O'Malley's boy...There are some county executives, I think would be ok...maybe Kevin Kamenetz (I really like his attitude...sounds like he can get things done) or David Craig. I think that the comptroller would also make a good governor but he won't run.

I think its good for a pre K. To promote eductaion and social intergration early is important. IRead More dont belive support sould come from more taxtion. If you spawn the child you pay for the childs education an welfare. Time and time again we all see more taxes through many forms and the democrats still cant balance the budget. No more higher or special taxes for education, this idealism in Md has to end. Its not right to ask others, for one who dont have children, to pay for yours. In this state we have many welfare programs, special taxtion and safety nets to help people. We dont need more potheads or gambling addicts to pay for our educational funding. What we need is ACCOUNTABILITY! Especially from the elected and citizens who can pay thier own way.
