Women of Classic Country Show June 22 at Blob's Park 8pm-12

Some of Washington, DC and Baltimore’s finest  musicians and singers  will pay tribute to female country greats in a special concert at Blob’s Park on June 22, 2013 at 8pm.  The emphasis is on Country’s Golden Age, including Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, the Davis Sisters, Jeannie Pruitt, Dolly Parton, Tanya Tucker, Lynn Anderson and, of course, Patsy Cline.

The eight featured performers are local luminaries Ruthie Logsdon, Diana Quinn, Karen Collins, The Crayfish Sisters, Dagmar Swenson, Wendy LeBeau and LesLee Anderson.   Three bands will play the tunes:  Honky Tonk Confidential, The Backroads Band  and Wendy LeBeau and Her Beaus, Bobby Spates on fiddle and Lynn Kasdorf on pedal steel guitar, and there will be some special guests, including Greg Hardin and Bob Newscaster. The show wouldn’t be complete without a few duets, too!

The show will cover several decades, concentrating on the 50s and 60s but including pioneers like Kitty Wells, country music’s first female superstar, and  Patsy Montana, the first female country performer to sell a million records. The show will also include a healthy portion of rockabilly including tunes by Wanda Jackson, Brenda Lee and Janice Martin. In the 60s, female artists started singing about the turbulent times, with themes including love, marriage, sexuality and women’s equality, and the show will feature many of these gems.

Blob’s Park, known for its polka dances in the past, features a large wooden dance floor, lots of seating and a huge selection of affordable German food and beer.  $15 cover and reservations are recommended.
