The Chanukah House: Second Lamp Lighting

Members and officers of the Jewish War Veterans lit the central menorah Wednesday at the holiday attraction on Greenspring Avenue.

Members of Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America were at The Chanukah House Wednesday to light the central menorah.

Erwin Burtnick, commander of the group's Department of Maryland was present, along with Gilbert Miller, chaplain of the Freestate Post No. 167 in Owings Mills, and Michael Zippert, also a member of the post.

The veterans group is a national organization begun in 1896 by Civil War veterans, Burtnick said.

The JWV headquarters is in Washington DC, along with the National Museum of American Jewish Military History, Burtnick said.

The dignitaries menorah lighting takes place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at , 6721 Greenspring Ave., Pikesville.

The following VIPs are scheduled to attend the third night of Hanukkah menorah lighting, according to a news release from the Baltimore County executive's office:

  • Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown
  • Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz
  • Councilwoman Vicki Almond
  • Police Chief Jim Johnson
