Special Events Set for Toddlers, Teens

This week, toddlers can learn about saying "Hello" in different languages, and teens can use their creativity to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

The Pikesville Branch Library is offering events for toddlers and teens this week at the Pikesville Branch Library.

On Thursday there's “Go Around the World with Hello," an interactive story time for pre-schoolers ages 2-5.

During this one-time-only program set for 10:30-11 a.m. Thursday, little ones will learn about the use of “Hello” in many languages.

Veteran volunteer storyteller Karen Kuebler, a dance and language educator for Baltimore County Public Schools who specializes in French, will use songs and dances to introduce language and math skills.

“She has incredible credentials,” said Youth Services Specialist Kathy Casserli, who runs the Story Timers Volunteer Training Program for BCPL.

And at 2 p.m. Thursday, children ages 11-17 will gather to paint bricks that will be used as decorative doorstops at newly-built Habitat for Humanity homes.

"It's a way they can contribute," even if they're too young to volunteer directly for Habitat, said Youth Services Specialist Elizabeth Refferty.

For more events, visit the branch's calendar of events.

The library is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and from 1-5 p.m. Sundays.

It's located at 1301 Reisterstown Road in downtown Pikesville.
