Hurricanes Soccer Team Wins Pikesville Championship

Patch Reader: The Hurricanes, a team in the Greater Pikesville Recreation Council, won its championship last weekend to finish the season undefeated.

Joni Palmer was impressed with her grandson's recreational soccer team win this weekend. So she sent in some photos and a summary of the 9-and-under team's undefeated season and championship win to Pikesville Patch.

"What is so amazing is that for the last four years or more, my grandson (Zach Pearlstone) never played on a team that won any games. Or if they did, it was maybe one at the most," Palmer wrote in the email.

"He paid his dues and stuck with soccer, and together with a group of young boys and girls they pulled out a masterful season."

The team, led by coach Matt Taylor, won its championship game Sunday at the fields of , Palmer said. The soccer championship win marked an undefeated season for the team.

Julie Bernstein, the 9-and-under and 11-and-under soccer commissioner for the Greater Pikesville Recreation Council said the Hurricanes' performance has been impressive.

"It was an exciting championship game and they played a fabulous game," she said of the Hurricanes. "We're very proud of (all) our teams."

Brian Friedlander, council president, said the soccer program is growing. "We have a very large soccer program that has come a long way in the last few years."
