Gordon Center Co-presents Baltimore County Dance Celebration

By Randi Benesch
Managing Director of Arts and Culture
Gordon Center for Performing Arts

We are honored to co-present the first-ever Baltimore County Dance Celebration, a wonderful partnership between Baltimore County, the Gordon Center and our local dance community. Baltimore dance companies, such as Deep Vision and The Collective, as well as the dance departments from local colleges and universities including Towson, Goucher and UMBC. All will come together to shine a spotlight on dance in our community.

The dance celebration will make the most of our expansive facility and we look forward to filling our stages, our studios and our gallery spaces with dance for an entire month. In addition to the dance programs here at the JCC, there will of course be shows and classes throughout the County, from Dundalk to Towson to Catonsville.

You’ll see the styles and range of performances, classes and films are designed for both dance lovers and performers. We hope the Celebration also will introduce new audiences to the joys of dance.

The Gordon Center is proud to present the international troupe Company E, with a Saturday evening performance from their contemporary repertoire and a Sunday matinee of “The Jungle Book” geared towards families. That special performance will include dancers from Towson University Community Dance. Company E dancers also will be providing a wide array of residency activities for middle and high school students throughout Baltimore County Public Schools.

AKIMBO Uncoiled from Deep Vision Dance Company in Towson will help unleash your inner “jazz age” vibe with free ragtime social dance classes and interactive performances for seniors and families.

The Baltimore Ballet and special guests will perform “A Gershwin Rhapsody and “The Firebird."  Later in the month Dance Baltimore will showcase dances from around the world through an evening of “Global Expressions."

These are just some of the highlights. We’ve made the Dance Celebration over a month long, so there’s time to fit in several performances and try out a few drop-in dance classes to see who might be the next dance star.

We hope everyone will “take a leap” and enjoy the Baltimore County Dance Celebration.
