Indian American Friendship Dinner a Success

India Forum Inc. hosted a very successful 27th Annual Indo-American Friendship Dinner on Oct 13, 2012. The dinner was well attended by a number of national and Maryland leaders.

India Forum Inc hosted a very successful 27th Annual Indo-American Friendship Dinner on Oct. 13 at the Temple Oheb Shalom in Baltimore, Maryland.

The dinner was well attended by a number of National and Maryland leaders including: U.S. Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin, Rep. John Sarbanes, the chief of staff for Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown with governor's representative Yi Shen, House Majority Leader Kumar P. Barve, Deputy Secretary of State of MD Rajan Natarajan, Asst. Secretary of the Maryland Department of Transportation Caitlin Hughes Rayman, economist Anirban Basu, as well representatives from U.S. Sen. Barabara Mikulski’s office, Delegate Adrienne A. Jones’ office and Howard County Executive Ken Ulman's office.

In addition a number of local business owners and leaders participated representing the following corporations:

The main theme of this year’s dinner was "Culture and Nation Building."

A number of delegates and guest speakers highlighted how the Indo-American community continues to play an important role in the growth and advancement of these values in the US and India.

The Board of Trustees of India Forum Inc. also presented a public service award to former Maryland Attorney General Joseph Curran Jr., and a community service award to Mr. Sachinder (Sam) Gupta of E2CR for their lifelong and continued contributions to the Indo-American community in support of the core principles of India Forum Inc.

There was an amazing fusion of Hollywood and Bollywood music with an a capella performance by Anokha, the young talented students from the University of Maryland, College Park.

In addition there was a fusion dance performed by Nrityaki Dance Academy from Virginia choreographed by Shweta Misra.

India Forum released a Souvenir magazine to mark this event.

It was refreshing to see that the Youth of Maryland participating in this event. India Forum surely was successful in bringing the past, present and future of Maryland residents together.

Since 1975, India Forum Inc. has been serving the cultural and community needs of the Indian Community.

As a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization, the goals of India Forum are to promote Indian Culture, Tradition and Heritage in this part of the world. We make this happen by facilitating high quality events at top notch venues for the Indian Community in Maryland/Baltimore area. These events also help in engaging the local community and increase their awareness of the rich Indian culture and heritage.

India Forum Inc. is organized and run by a team of dedicated voluntary board members.

 Upcoming Key events organized or being proposed by India Forum:

  • November/December 2012 - Movie Night and A Capella performance for the community
  • January/February 2013 - Yoga Day
  • March 2013 - Sport Day (all or any India traditional Sports/Games organized by youth)
  • April 2013 - Holi Dance Competition: Indian dance schools from MD, VA, DC compete at all age levels. 
  • July/August 2013 - Dinner Cruise and India Day Celebration
  • October 2013: Indo-American Friendship Dinner–An event with a 27-year heritage celebrating the friendship of the two largest democracies in the world. Attended and honored by senators, congressman and other delegates. Sponsored by the local Indian businesses in Maryland.
  • November 2013 - Diwali: A premier year-end event celebrating the Festival of lights
