Ralston Community Meets, Greets Police and Neighbors

The National Night Out event drew dozens of residents from throughout the neighborhood.

The Ralston Community Association and Citizens on Patrol groups hosted a neighborhood party Tuesday during National Night Out.

Dozens of residents turned out to meet and greet each other and to discuss crime prevention.

Baltimore County police, McGruff the Crime Dog, members of the Pikesville Police & Community relations council and staff members from the Pikesville Target store visited the event, as well as four others within the Pikesville area.

For example, some residents have patrolled the neighborhood during early morning hours when crime tends to occur.

That presence has helped cut the number of crimes, she said.

Sgt. Vickie Warehime, former community outreach team leader for the precinct, also visited with neighbors at several communities Tuesday, including at Ralston.

Warehime was transfered earlier this summer and works in Dundalk at the Police Training Center on the department's Learning Management System, and its Field-Based Reporting project.

Warehime said she just wanted to come back and see the residents she used to work with.

"How can you not come back to Pikesville for National Night Out?" she said.
