It's Back: Extreme Heat Expected Today

Temperatures are going sky-high today, and don't expect much relief tonight.

You may have noticed it when you stepped out of the house this morning: a warm breeze, stickiness in the air, or maybe it was just a feeling.

Yes, the heat is returning today. After a relatively “mild” Wednesday, with highs barely reaching 90 degrees, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for today until 8 p.m.

Temperatures are expected to reach 95 degrees and, with the humidity factored in, feel as hot as 105 degrees according to NWS. Expect the hottest temperatures from 2 to 5 p.m.

As we should know by now, high temperatures coupled with high humidity can be dangerous, particularly to the very young, the elderly and people with health conditions exacerbated by extreme heat.

NWS recommends doing any outside work in the early morning or later at night and drinking lots of water. If you can, stay out of the sun and in the air conditioning and be sure to check on anyone who doesn’t have air conditioning.
