Schwartzman Returns to Town Saturday

The former Pikesville High School goalie plays for the Denver Outlaws in Major League Lacrosse. They play the ChesapeakeBayhawks in the season finale, a battle for first place, at Navy on Saturday.

Jesse Schwartzman knows about big-game pressure.

He learned about it while playing for some good Pikesville High lacrosse teams. There was more of it while playing with some very good Johns Hopkins teams, two of which won national titles with the former Panther in goal.

Now, he'll face some more pressure again on Saturday. Schwartzman is the goalie for the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse. They are tied with the local Chesapeake Bayhawks for first place and the teams will battle for the top seed in the upcoming playoffs this Saturday at 7 p.m. at Navy.

Schwartzman is clearly one of the MLL's top goalies and a big reason that Denver's posted a 10-3 record, identical to Chesapeake's.

He leads the league with 10 wins and is third in goals-against-average, giving up 11.03 goals per game in the high-scoring fast-paced league.

Chesapeake beat Denver, 18-16, when the two teams met in Colorado earlier this season.

The winner of Saturday's game gets that first seed, which could give them an easier first-round playoff game. But Denver's going to need a big game from Schwartzman as Chesapeake has arguably the league's top offense.

But he's been through this before.
