The Panthers also got two third-place finishes. Haile Kostin finished third in the 800 meters, and the 400 relay team of Quadir Rhoe, C.J. Smalley, Terrell Flanigan and Maury Sall combined to take third in that race.

Relays proved helpful to the Panthers again when they finished fourth in the final event of the meet, the 1,600 relay. Rhoe and Sall combined with Anton Daniels and Chris Tolliver to score five more points.

Max Sterling took seventh in the 1,600 while Sall ended up eighth in the 400. Daniel Lewis also finished eighth in his event, the 300 hurdles.

All of those efforts were enough to help Pikesville do very well. Perryville won easily with 91.5 points, beating out Brunswick (68.5).

Boonsboro took third with 53, edging out North Carroll (52), Western Tech (50) and Pikesville (48).

The Panthers were just five points out of third place and did most of their damage with underclassmen, something that will help them in the next few years.

“It’s a learning experience,” said Gerard Filosa, assistant coach under head coach Adam Hittner. “We’ve got a lot of young guys and … we’re pleased.”

Also in this area, the Milford Mill girls finished 11th in Class 3A with 26 points. The Miller boys were ninth with 32 points.

Senior Racquel Moses was bothered by some leg problems but still finished second in the 400 and the 100 hurdles.

Mykael Dixon finished fifth in the 100 and seventh in the 200 for the Miller girls. Toni Brown got the team’s other four points by taking fifth in the 300 hurdles.

For the boys, Alaric Coker battled back after a tough week off the track to win the 800 in 1:55.79. Kashief Burton took third in the 110 and 300 hurdles.

Burton also ran on the fourth-place 400 relay team. He teamed with Marquis Thornton, Jarvis Staten and Kattrell Myers to get fourth in that race. This same group teamed up to take eighth in the 800 relay.

Coker, Mike Jones, Jordan Leon and Maurice Hawkins combined for an eighth-place finish in the 400 relay. Jones also finished sixth in the long jump.
