Pikesville Lacrosse Tournament Looks To The Future

First tournament is a big success, organizers look to make it an annual event

The initial Pikesville Lacrosse Tournament was so successful in its debut on Saturday that tournament officials already are planning on making it a regular event.

Bruce Scherr served as co-chair of the initial tournament—with Tom Crompton—on Saturday at Pikesville Middle School, and both were delighted with how everything went and already have started looking at the 2012 tournament.

Scherr said they’ve already started talking with Pikesville Rec about how they’ll do the tournament the second time around—and what the best way is to build off of this year's success.

“It was a great first year,” Scherr said. “The best part about it was that every team loved it. They loved it.”

There were about 500 kids (boys and girls) of various age groups in the tournament, and most seemed happy with the competition.

This was a starting point for the future. Now that teams and programs know about the Pikesville Lacrosse Tournament, they can plan for it next year.

“It’s just growing,” Scherr said. “We’d like to say it will [be] the same date. We already got the word from [Pikesville Rec officials for next year]. “

Crompton agreed with Scherr and also said this was just the starting point for bigger things to come with this tournament.

“I call this the ‘thank you’ tournament because I told Bruce we’re going to spend most of our time saying ‘thank you’ to the parents, to the coaches and to everyone coming,” Crompton said. “We’re building for the future.”
