Pikesville Baseball Splits Two; Softball Loses Two

Panthers baseball routs Overlea after losing to Loch Raven.

A little bit of offense can sure go a long way. That’s what the Pikesville baseball team learned earlier this week.

After losing to Loch Raven, Pikesville banged out 11 hits and rolled to a 16-1 victory over Overlea the following day. Four batters got two hits but the Panthers’ pitchers didn’t give up any hits routed the Falcons.

The week began with an 11-1 loss to Loch Raven. Steven Boudoris shut down the Panthers, giving up just four hits and one unearned run.

“He did a good job of mixing his pitches and really keeping our guys off balance,” said Pikesville coach Joseph Kramer.

Dane Epstein pitched well in relief for Pikesville, allowing just one hit and one unearned run.

Things got better the following day in the Overlea game. The Panthers got 11 hits and drew nine walks. Four errors also helped the Panthers score their third victory of the season.

Brad Garfield was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Tete Obot went 2-for-4 and got an RBI triple plus two runs. Brian Stevenson helped by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double, while Justin Horwitz was 2-for-2 (two singles).

The pitching staff also came through. Tyler Kennedy started and was perfect in his two innings.

Mitch Goldstein threw the last three innings and didn’t allow a hit, giving up one unearned run. He struck out five.

Softball

The Pikesville softball team had a tougher week, losing to Loch Raven and Sparrows Point.

Loch Raven handed Pikesville an 18-1 loss. Emily Friedlander provided a nice moment when she hit a solo homer.

“It was a bomb,” said Pikesville coach Mike Behrens. “When she crossed the plate, the ball hadn’t even gotten back to the infield.”

But errors hurt the Panthers in this game, as they have for much of this season. Sparrows Point then handed Pikesville a 12-2 loss in the next game. Jess Rubin got a triple and scored one of the team's runs.

The Panthers were scheduled to play Overlea on Friday, but the Falcons forfeited the game, giving Pikesville its third win.
