Pikesville Baseball Heads To Bohemia Manor For 2nd Round

Panthers take on Cecil County school today after 7-2 rout of Sparrows Point in Class 1A North Region opener.

The Pikesville High School baseball team hits the road again May 16 for the second round of the Class 1A North Region playoffs. But the Panthers certainly won’t mind taking another bus ride.

Pikesville is headed to No. 2 seed Bohemia Manor of Cecil County for its next playoff game following a 7-2 victory over host Sparrows Point May 13.

Doug Lavin led the way throwing a two-hitter and allowing only five base runners. The Pointers got the two hits plus two walks and had another batter reach on an error. Lavin retired 13 consecutive Sparrows Point batters during one stretch.

“It was great to see Doug take the hill and be in charge,” said Pikesville coach Joseph Kramer. “He started the game with a plan and worked it to his advantage.”

Brad Garfield gave Lavin and the Panthers plenty of offensive support. He went 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Mitch Goldstein went 2-for-4 with one RBI, and Lavin added an RBI double.

Playing Bohemia Manor will be a test since its one of the best teams in the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference, but Pikesville comes into this game on a roll.

“I told our guys on Friday after the win that Monday will be a huge day for Pikesville baseball,” Kramer said. “We need to come out and play the same way we did Friday — loose and with energy.”
