Lee Looks To Carry On Wildcat Soccer Success

Joon Lee, a senior on the Arundel soccer team, is ready to defend the Wildcats 2010 County championship and pave the way for his younger teammates.

The Arundel soccer team will begin in-county play on Sept. 13. Yet, it's a match nine months ago that many of the Wildcat players can't stop thinking about – a 2-1 playoff loss to Severna Park.

It just happens that on the team's schedule this year, Sept. 13 reads "at Severna Park."

One Arundel senior determined to right that wrong is forward Joon Lee.

"We really did not like the way we ended last year against Severna Park. That's the one thing that [ticks] me off so much," he said.

A four-year varsity player at Arundel, he is ready to take on a leadership role as well as the scoring load for the Wildcats.

Despite missing four games as a junior due to a blood clot in his leg, Lee was a second-team All-County selection.

"It was terrible," Lee said about missing time last year.

New Arundel coach Mike McCarron thinks Lee is ready to shoulder the load for the Wildcats this year.

"And now that we're into Joon's senior year here we're expecting big things from Joon," said he. "He has been able to learn from some very good players and [now] it's his time."

Along with senior teammate Logan McCarron, Lee has spent much of the preseason helping accumulate many of the younger, less experienced Wildcat players.

Coach McCarron expects strong leadership from Lee.

"So far he's responded well."

Lee, who was born in Korea and briefly lived in Ohio before moving to Crofton, is a supporter of Manchester United and sights midfielder Park Ji-Sung as his favorite player.

"Almost my whole family is from Korea, so it's a big part of my life," he said.

Lee says his family speaks mainly Korean in their home.

When he's not playing soccer, Lee has spent much of his free time with the Arundel Environmental Program, the Arundel Mentor Program and the Key Club.

After high school Lee says he will likely study pre-med or business management, but is unclear of much more than that.

"Pre-med, I want to do to it so I can help people out," he said.

For now, Lee and his teammates are focused on Sept. 13.

"We're all on the same page. We all want the same thing," he said. "We're working hard every single day."

Nice article on Joon. This Arundel group of seniors has very good chemistry and they should have an excellent season. Go Cats!
