Coffeehouse Event to Uplift Through Broadway Songs

When Shannon Wollman sings Broadway and other songs from yesteryear, she creates positive energy--enough to lift us from the throes of winter in Baltimore.

"I try to make everybody have a really good time," she said. "I sing songs that people know that bring happy thoughts and memories to them."

Wollman, honored for her vocals and leading roles in Broadway shows, will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at an intimate venue in Pikesville.

There are only 100 seats, and not a bad one in the house. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for ages 16 and younger: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/604185. Guests can help themselves to coffee and desserts -- during the show or beforehand, when doors open at 7:15 p.m.

This 'belty' alto will sing "Don't Rain in My Parade," from "Funny Girl;" "Cabaret," from off Broadway, and standards from the 1940s and 50s, such as Frank Sinatra's "I Get a Kick Out of You," and "I Can See Clearly Now."

Pianist Michael DeVito of Baltimore accompanies Wollman. They've worked together with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Wollman said.

Wollman, who is a fundraiser for the Heart and Vascular Institute for the divisions of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, said she looks forward to performing in her hometown: Pikesville.

"Be ready to celebrate Broadway!" she said. "I want everyone to come and have a good time."

The show will be held at the cozy parish hall of St. Mark's on the Hill Episcopal Church, 1620 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, 21208.

This production is managed by Circle 21 Entertaiment, a group of professionals bringing music, theater and other entertainment shows to the Baltimore Metro area.

Circle 21's first show this month, featuring Karen Goldberg, nearly sold out. There were only about four seats left.

We plan another show for May 3, and will publish those details, hopefully later this month.
