Winter Care Package Project Wraps Up at Krieger Schechter

The day school collected hundreds of items for Jewish Volunteer Connection Mitzvah Day.

A donation drive at Krieger Schechter Day School successfully collected hundreds of items for Mitzvah Day winter care packages.

The "Thankful to Give" program was led by a new Community Service Committee of the school's Parents Association.

"We wanted to teach the schoolchildren to be thankful for all they had and to give to those truly in need this winter," program leader Jessamyn Abel said in a news release from the school.

The following were collected and will be distributed to the needy on Dec. 25—Mitzvah Day, the release states:

  • 130 pair of children's socks
  • 30 pair of adult gloves
  • 145 water bottles
  • 327 granola bars
  • hundreds of toiletry items

On Christmas Day at the Weinberg Park Heights Jewish Community Center, hundreds of volunteers will put together the winter care packages.

The items collected through the school will be donated to local on Christmas Day, according to the release.

Abel used a Thanksgiving theme to encourage donations, and volunteers passed out flyers as parents picked up their children at school, it states.

The committee plans a project for next semester at the local Ronald McDonald House, according to the release.
