Sudbrook Magnet Mathlete To Compete in State Event

The student joins teams from Franklin, Hereford, Pikesville and Perry Hall, and three other individual competitors from Ridgely Middle School.

Michael Krasnitski has earned an individual berth at the Maryland State MathCounts Competition.

The Sudbrook Magnet Middle School student is one of four Baltimore County Public Schools students who will compete, according to a news release from the school system.

The other three are from Ridgely Middle School in Lutherville.

Also, teams from Franklin, Hereford, Pikesville, and Perry Hall middle schools earned spots at the competition, set for March 16 at Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus.

The other three individual students, from Ridgely, are:

  • Samantha Engler
  • Ari Wu
  • Jessica Ye

Mathcounts is a national program. 'Mathletes' compete to "solve oral and written, timed mathematics problems," the release states.

To get in the state meet, the students competed in the annual Baltimore/Chesapeake Chapter Competition held Feb. 2 at Perry Hall High School.

There were 175 competing, representing Baltimore City and Baltimore, Howard, Harford and Cecil counties, the release states.

The national competition is set for May 10 in Washington D.C.
