Pikesville High, Milford Mill Academy Students Earn Scholarships

Each wins a $20,000 national Dell scholarship and title of Dell scholar.

Two Pikesville area students have earned prestigious national Dell Scholarships, according to Baltimore County Public Schools.

senior Lutifya Shakarova, and senior Darian Williams, each earned $20,000 scholarships, along with mentoring, a laptop computer, printer and other support, according to a news release from the school system.

Shakarova and Williams are now known as Dell scholars, and are among 300 high school seniors throughout the United States to earn the scholarship, the release states.

"Both Shakarova and Williams successfully completed the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program that is available in 22 Baltimore County Public Schools high schools and eight BCPS middle schools," it states.

The scholarship program, funded by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, provides scholarships to students who have completed approved college readiness programs.

Most Dell Scholars are the first in their families to attend college and are from economically disadvantaged communities.
