Pikesville, Baltimore Residents Earn Higher Education Honors

Stevenson University graduates five Pikesville residents; a Bowie State junior will travel to Nigeria to study Yoruba language, and Central Penn student Samuel Walker makes the Dean's List.

Five Pikesville residents graduated from Stevenson University this spring. Congratulations go out to:

It boasts 4,200 students and six academic schools: Business and Leadership, Design, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Sciences, and Graduate and Professional Studies.

Samuel Walker of Pikesville is on the Dean's List at Central Penn College for the spring 2013 term.

Walker is majoring in Homeland Security Management at the school, located in Summerdale, PA, according to a news release by ReadMedia.

To qualify for the honor, a student carries six or more credits and earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or better for the term, it states.

Scholarship Recipient


Iyabode Sodipo, 20, a junior at Bowie State University in Bowie, MD, will travel to Nigeria this fall to study the Yoruba language.

She earned this honor as one of 160 students to receive the Boren Scholarship, according to a news release from ReadMedia.

Sodipo is junior criminal justice major from Baltimore, and spent her childhood in Nigeria, the release states.

The scholarship is funded by the National Security Education Program to promote "international study in areas critical to U.S. interests," it states.

After completing the program, Sodipo, who wants to be an immigration lawyer, must work one year in a national security role with the federal government within three years of graduation, according to the release.
