Pikesville Teams Battle in High School Playoffs

Pikesville High School field hockey falls in region finals, but soccer teams are still going. Park boys soccer, girls volleyball still in play.

Pikesville teams have been battling through the various post-season high school tournaments this week in different sports.

The Pikesville High School field hockey team made it all the way to the Class 1A South Region final before suffering a painful 1-0 loss to Loch Raven in double overtime Wednesday.

has been one of the biggest surprises of the tournament as the Raiders haven’t given up a goal in three victories.

offense was strong all season but they couldn’t come up with anything against a team that’s been on a roll in the regional playoffs.

Also at Pikesville High School, the volleyball team had a better break in the regional playoffs. The Panthers are set to play in the Class 1A North Region, but in the normally 16-team region, just five teams entered.

That means Pikesville, which came in as the No. 2 seed, got two byes and earned a spot in the region semifinals without playing. The Panthers are set to meet third-seeded Sparrows Point on Nov. 9, with the winner earning a spot in the finals.

The Panthers also are doing well in soccer.

Pikesville boys beat Overlea, 1-0, on Tuesday in the Class 1A North Region quarterfinal. They’re scheduled to meet Sparrows Point Thursday at CCBC-Dundalk in the region semifinal.

Panthers girls soccer advanced earlier this week with a 2-1 victory over Carver A&T in the Class 1A North Region quarterfinal. Pikesville is scheduled to play Western Tech on Friday at 3 p.m., in the region semifinals. That game will be at 3 p.m., at Catonsville Middle School.

Among private schools, the Park boys soccer team stayed alive in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference tournament by beating Boys’ Latin, 2-1.

Varsitysportsnetwork.com reported that Francesco Porcarelli scored both of Park’s goals, including one late in the second half, to put the Bruins in the semifinals Thursday against Friends School of Baltimore
