Barnes connected with wide receiver Devin Pack for a 50-yard touchdown midway through the second quarter to give Pikesville a 14-6 lead heading into halftime.

Running back Travon Barnes, meanwhile, tallied two rushing touchdowns for the Panthers.

Willis said Barnes, who, along with the rest of Pikesville’s rushing attack, had been a relative non-factor against a talented New Town defense, ran for around 120 yards .

Willis also noted that wide receiver Andre Pollard led the Panthers in receiving, racking up more than 100 receiving yards.

The head coach was also pleased with what he saw from Pikesville’s defense, which held Lansdowne scoreless for the final three quarters of the game.

“We played much better on both sides of the ball,” Willis said, spotlighting the Panthers’ ability to run the ball on offense and stop the run on defense as the two areas where he saw his team improve the most from its first game.

“We struggled in both of those areas against New Town,” Willis said, “but improved significantly in both areas against Lansdowne.”
