What More Is There To Say?

Speak no evil. When people do bad things, talking about it can be even worse.

Growing up in our household my mother held many titles including wife, teacher, chef, short-order cook, seamstress, disciplinarian, referee and wise sage. 

When my siblings and I would get into a high-volume conversation and it would trail off into negative mumblings about the other person. After diffusing the situation and bringing peace to the matter, my mother would emphatically declare, “If you don’t have anything nice to say; then don’t say anything at all!”  Usually, that would send the opponents back to their corners (i.e. bedrooms) with their mouths closed.

I later learned she probably read Ephesians 4:29 which states: “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”

After viewing and reading the depressing details of the recent accounts in various media outlets, I was flabbergasted at the actions of the peoples who allegedly committed the dastardly deed. Moreover, I was repulsed when I viewed, heard and read the details of each situation. (Yes, like millions of other people, I wanted to know all sides of the story.) The barrage of opinions from so many sources was overwhelming.

What more is there to say?

I made a decision. I decided to take heed and honor my mother’s declaration, “If you don’t have anything nice to say; then don’t say anything at all!”  

Instead, I will only provide a short list of names that have been roaming around in my head.

Done! They are officially out of my head.
