You might hear sounds from air defense exercises this week.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command and the Continental United States NORAD Region will hold exercises Tuesday through Thursday, according to a news release.
They're for training purposes, and are set to take place on those nights between midnight and 2 a.m. in the National Capital Region, the release states.
You could hear the following: Civil Air Patrol aircraft, Air Force F-16 fighters and a U.S. Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, it states.
This training, known as Exercise Falcon Virgo, is between the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Capital Region Coordination Center, the Joint Air Defense Operations Center, the Civil Air Patrol and the US Coast Guard, the release states.
It's designed "... to hone NORAD's intercept and identification operations as well as to operationally test the NCR Visual Warning System and to certify newly assigned Command and Control personnel at JADOC," it states.
