Gas Line Relocation Closes I-70 Security Boulevard

The closure could last up to six weeks.

Drivers on I-70 are putting up with an extended detour.

On Tuesday, state highway and Baltimore Gas and Electric crews closed the eastbound I-70 exit to northbound Security Boulevard. The closure will last about six weeks, according to state highway officials.

The closure will allow utility crews to move an underground gas line for the Maryland Transportation Administration's Red Line construction. The line is currently pending federal funding with construction tentatively set to begin in 2015. The new light rail line, when complete, will run from Medicare's offices in Baltimore County to a planned Bayview MARC station in Baltimore City.

During the closure, drivers who would get off at the northbound Security Boulevard exit are asked to drive past the ramp and turn around at the park and ride lot onto westbound I-70, then turn right at the first ramp for Security Boulevard.
