By Bryan P. Sears

The building that houses the Baltimore County Fire and Police Departments was briefly evacuated Monday after an odor of smoke was reported.

The evacuation of the Public Safety Building, located at 700 E. Joppa Road in Towson, was announced on the county's police and fire department Twitter account just before 2:15 p.m. Monday.

Cpl. Cathy Batton, a police department spokeswoman, said the odor was first detected on the 5th floor of the building. That floor houses the records department.

Employees to return to the building a short time later after fire officials were unable to locate the source of the odor, Batton said.

Additional details were not yet available.
