State Police Urge Residents To Not Drive During Storm
They're preparing to help during the storm that might accompany Hurricane Sandy, but motorists should be cautious of water on roadways, and aware of laws.
Maryland State Police will have four-wheel-drive vehicles, its recovery teams and Aviation Command and more ready for the storm that's headed toward the state.
In a press release Friday, superintendent Col. Marcus Brown urged motorists to stay off the roads during the storm.
“Use common sense,” Colonel Brown said in a statement. “Do not go out unnecessarily and risk creating an emergency rescue situation."

Motorists who do venture out should slow down to avoid hydroplaning on wet roads, and avoid standing water.

- Maryland law requires drivers to have headlights on when windshield wipers are operating
- Drivers must treat broken traffic signals as a four-way stop. Drivers can go only after they've yielded to vehicles or pedestrians already in the intersection, and not until the intersection is cleared and safe.
