Police: 1 Dead after Officer-Involved Shooting

A burglary call turned into a police-involved shooting Tuesday in Woodlawn, with one suspect dead.

At about 4:22 p.m. police were called by the resident of a home in the 5400 block of Dogwood Road, said Cpl. John Wachter, spokesman for the Baltimore County Police Department, at the scene of the incident.

The call was for a burglary in progress, he said. But, when police from the Wilkens Precinct got there, they saw three suspects run from the home. Two got into a vehicle parked in front of the home, along the wooded, tree-lined street, and the third suspect ran.

When an officer approached the suspects' vehicle and put his arm toward the steering wheel to stop the driver, the driver grabbed and held onto the officer's arm and began to drive away, pulling the officer with the vehicle.

That officer and two backup officers who had arrived, shot at the suspects, Wachter said at the scene.

One suspect is dead, and another injured in the shooting. The injured suspect was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma.

A third suspect is in police custody, and was found later with the aid of a K-9 unit, Wachter said.

The officer who was "dragged" with the car received minor injuries, according to a release Tuesday night.

Police are not releasing any information on the suspects' identities, Wachter said.
