Police: Suspicious Package at SSA Office Not Hazardous

Office building evacuated in Woodlawn.

A suspicious package was reported at 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the Social Security Administration building in Woodlawn. Baltimore County Police Department determined there was no threat after employees were ordered to evacuate, said Detective Cathy Batton.

The package was discovered at a building in the 1500 block of Woodlawn Drive and the police Hazardous Devices Unit from Towson responded, Batton said.

"[The unit] found that the package did contain electronic equipment, but it was not hazardous," she said. "It was just electronic equipment ... it was something ordered."

The entire building was evacuated, but Batton said she did not know exactly how many people were forced to leave.

"The Social Security Administration did make the decision to evacuate one of their buildings," she said.
