Police Release Name of 4-Year-Old Shooting Victim: Tyeshawn Townsend

Boy who was shot in the face died of his wounds March 20 at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Baltimore City police identified the 4-year-old boy who died after accidentally shooting himself Sunday morning as Tyeshawn Townsend. 

At 10:30 a.m. police went to a home in the 3600 block of Fernhill Road to respond to a shooting report. There they found Tyeshawn, who had been shot in the face, said Det. Jeremy Silbert.

He was first taken to Sinai Hospital, and was transferred to Johns Hopkins, where he later died, Silbert said.

Police recovered a gun, and continue to investigate the circumstances of the shooting, Silbert said.

The townhouse where the shooting occurred is located just across the street from Callaway Elementary School, in the Callaway-Garrison community.

Police urge people who have guns in their homes to unload them, secure them, and keep them out of reach of children.
