Police Officer Injured in Multi-Vehicle Collision

Crash occurred as the police vehicle headed to Milford Mill where a tactical team and negotiators were dealing with a person "in emotional distress."

A police officer was injured and a civilian taken to the hospital after a multiple-vehicle crash Monday afternoon at the intersection of Reisterstown and Old Court roads in Pikesville.

At about 3:30 p.m., a county police truck driven by an officer responding to an emotional distress call in Milford Mill was among the vehicles involved in the crash, said Det. Cathy Batton, spokeswoman for Baltimore County Police.

Police investigated at least three vehicles at the scene.

The situation at the apartment complex was resolved peacefully with no injuries, a police spokeswoman said.

Meanwhile, the cause of the traffic accident remains under investigation by the county police Crash Team, she said.

Konstantinos Kourtesis of Perry Hall was involved in the accident. His rust-colored SUV was struck on the center of the front bumper by the police vehicle after the police truck had been struck by a smaller, silver car, Kourtesis said.

Describing the accident, Kourtesis said his vehicle was stopped at a red light in the outside, northbound lane of Reisterstown Road and the county truck was traveling southbound on Reisterstown Road.

"He was coming fast, I saw the siren (flashing), then (I heard) 'boom!' It happened so fast," Kourtesis said.

He said that, as the county truck came through the intersection, a silver car came into the intersection and struck the county truck, and possibly a black Jeep that was in the inside, northbound lane of Reisterstown Road.

The county truck then headed over toward the other side of the road, where it struck Kourtesis' truck.

"I'm very lucky," he said, noting that it might have been worse if he'd been in a smaller car.

In Milford Mill, police tactical units and  hostage negotiators had responded to an apartment complex in the 6900 block of Marsue Drive where "a person was in emotional distress," Batton said.  There were no hostages or injuries, according to police reports.

"The situation was resolved peacefully and the person has been taken to the hospital," she said.
