Police Investigation: Pedestrian Error Cause of MTA Bus Fatal Accident

Baltimore County Police Crash Team rules on Feb. 11 tragedy at Slade and Park Heights avenues in Pikesville. State Medical Examiner's Office employee Cindy Feldstein died at scene.

Baltimore County Police investigators ruled that pedestrian error was the cause of the Feb. 11 crash in which an MTA bus hit pedestrian Cindy Feldstein, an employee of the state Medical Examiner's Office.

Feldstein, 53, a Pikesville resident, and mother of four, died of her injuries.

Det. Cathy Batton, police spokesman, announced the team's ruling March 30.

Feldstein was struck by a Maryland Transit Administration bus at around 5:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at the intersection of Slade and Park Heights avenues in Pikesville, police said last month.

She died about an hour later at Maryland Shock Trauma.

Chief Medical Examiner Dr. David Fowler described Feldstein as an invaluable asset to his office for her abilities to manage people dealing with all aspects of death, and that her co-workers were saddened by her sudden loss.

"Her real skill was her ability to deal with people, and she was really second to none,” Fowler said after learning of her death.

That skill is essential in managing the “broad spectrum of people” and institutions that call on the medical examiner’s office seeking information: relatives and friends of the deceased, prosecutors, defense attorneys, doctors, police officers, he said.

Above all, he added, "You must be a people person, with so much caring for individuals.” And that, Fowler said, was Feldstein.

"She was a wonderful person,” he said.

She is survived by her mother, her children, her husband Jerry, and a brother and sister.
