Police: Be Aware of Recent Deception Crime, Incident

The Pikesville Police & Community Relations Council shares a warning from Baltimore County police about a recent burglary in Pikesville

The Pikesville Police & Community Relations Council distributed the following information about two recent burglaries: deception crimes.

In each of the crimes in the Long Meadow Estates area of Pikesville, males told residents they were workers with the water company, according to a crime alert from the Baltimore County Police Department's Pikesville Precinct.

In the most recent incident, at about 2 p.m. May 2, one burglar told a resident of the 8000 block of Ivy Lane that he was from the water company, and that he needs to check the water pressure inside the home.

A young male was handing out fliers concerning water recycling, and said he was from the water company.

Police urge residents to do the following if a person comes to the residence, claiming to be a utility employee:

"Make them produce a valid identification card from the utility company," the alert staes. "Additionally, if you do not feel comfortable or satisfied with the identification, do not let the subject in you home and call 911 for assistance."

If there is suspicious activity, call 911 so the police can respond, and try to give a good description of the suspects to help police investigate.
